The Accident

Around 1:15 Monday afternoon, Caymen was having a fun summer day enjoying his scooter. When Caymen pulled out of his home's driveway and headed across the road, a neighbor driving a suburban vehicle hit Caymen on his side, causing him to roll under the vehicle--missing the tires by just a few inches. From the garage, Caymen's older brother Ashton (who saw the accident) yelled his name, and ran out to find him underneath the vehicle.

As Ashton ran inside to call 911, Ariel, the eldest, having heard Ashton's scream, ran to Caymen and crawled beneath the vehicle to console her little brother. There was no response, as he was unconscious. Meanwhile, Ashton called their Dad, who was at the church office along with their Mom. After placing the call, Ashton ran back to the accident and crawled under the vehicle to join Ariel and Caymen beneath the heavy vehicle.

A first responder arrived within five minutes, and Caymen regained consciousness and began to cry shortly before the EMS arrived. Pastor Mark arrived about 10 minutes before the EMS left, and Tiffany arrived just in time to ride on the ambulance with Caymen. The paramedics wanted to life flight him to the hospital in Charlotte (it has a more capable trauma center than the local hospital in Lincolnton), but because of the weather, they had to use the ambulance to transport him to the Carolina Medical Center.

The ambulance paramedics anticipated that Caymen would have brain and internal injuries, but thankfully, the MRI revealed only skull fractures, which heal easily. He is currently in the ICU at the Levine Children's hospital, where they are keeping a close 72-hour watch on him, hoping for no brain swelling.

Please continue to pray for Caymen's continued healing and recovery. Thank you all for your prayers and support. We will continue to update you on Caymen's recovery as we receive more information.
